However, there is a model aircraft that the officer, who was a pilot in the Russian air force, gives to the private after the first time they spend the night together. The model appears at various stages throughout the film to signify the connection between the 2 men. I did wonder whether the model was of a Firebird aircraft and that's how the film got its name.</blockquote>
